Tasmiya for one who assists the slaughterer
Question
Zayd is so weak that he cannot properly draw the knife across the animal’s throat for the sacrifice, and there is a fear that the animal will get up and go away; therefore the butcher also places his hand on the knife together with Zayd. Does this not cause any defect in the sacrifice?
Answer
The sacrifice is fulfilled in this way too; however, just as it is binding on Zayd to slaughter saying “bismillah”, so too it is necessary for this butcher, placing his hand on the knife, to say “bismillah” (Shami, vol. 5, p. 213).
