A Dog Released at a Deer with “Bismillah” First Caught a Pig, Then the Deer
Question
A hunter released a dog after game; suddenly it seized a pig, and after staining its teeth with its blood it seized a deer, and that deer died. Is it now permissible to eat it or not? If not, how should the one who ate it be dealt with? And if the dog did not kill the deer but it was slaughtered, what is the ruling?
Answer
If this dog killed the deer by strangling it and did not wound it, or it is not a trained dog, or it was released without saying “bismillah,” then that deer has become haram; eating it is haram, and whoever ate it is sinful and must repent (tawba).
