Snatching Meat from a Dog’s Mouth and Eating It Oneself

Question

A hunter released his hunting dog after a deer, and the hunting dog caught the deer. Its owner arrived and slaughtered the deer, and then the dog, seizing an opportunity, grabbed a piece of meat and ran off. The dog’s owner ran after it, retrieved that piece, washed it and ate it. According to the Shari‘a, is such meat retrieved from a dog’s mouth pure, can it be halal, and is it permissible to eat it?

Answer

Once that meat has been purified, eating it is permissible according to the Shari‘a; there is no harm in it, for purifying the meat makes it pure.
