A mu'takif taking part in a Tablighi gathering

Question

May a mu'takif take part in Tablighi gatherings to give a talk and the like, when there is a fear that without his participation the gathering will be spoiled?

Answer

A gathering is not among the natural and Shari'a needs for which the mu'takif has been permitted to leave the mosque; therefore his i'tikaf will come to an end. It is another matter that he may not be called to account for this and may not be deemed sinful.
