Rinsing the Mouth and Nose with an Oily Hand While Fasting
Question
A person, while fasting, massaged mustard oil onto his hand and then performed wudu. A trace of oiliness remained on his hands, and with such oily fingers he put water into his nose. After cleaning his nose and completing wudu, a little while later he felt that the trace of oiliness could be sensed on his tongue as well, and also inside his throat and on his tongue. Now there is a doubt that the oiliness has also gone inside the stomach.
Answer
This makes no difference to the fast. Sometimes oiliness is very pungent: even without rinsing the mouth and without putting water into the nose with an oily hand, it reaches inside merely with the breath and affects the head and throat. And since the water did not enter inside the throat and did not reach the brain, why should the fast be affected?
