Kaffara for Swallowing Another Person's Saliva

Question

If a fasting man swallows the saliva of his friend or of his wife, does kaffara (expiation) become binding on him because of this or not?

Answer

Both qada (make-up) and kaffara will be binding: [ar]ومنه ابتلاع بزاق زوجته أو بزاق صديقه لأنه يتلذذ به، لا تلزم الكفارة ببزاق غيرهما لأنه يعافه[/ar] “Among it is swallowing the saliva of one’s wife or the saliva of one’s friend, since he takes pleasure in it; kaffara is not binding for the saliva of anyone other than these two, since he finds it repulsive” (“Maraqi al-Falah”,…
