The Imam Sitting Facing the Followers or towards the North

Question

Is it sunna for the imam, after every prayer, to sit facing the muqtadis (followers) or towards the north, or [only] after the prayer of some particular time?

Answer

After a prayer which is not followed by sunnas, turning to face north, south or towards the muqtadis is established; after a prayer which is followed by sunnas, this is not established — rather, one should make a brief supplication and become occupied with praying the sunnas. (“Tahtawi”; “Bada’i‘”).
