Reciting Supplications in the Heart
Question
Is it permissible to recite the supplications (du‘a) prescribed for particular times in one’s heart? If, in salawat and the like, the third kalima and istighfar, one does not move the tongue but recites only in the heart, is this better, or is moving the tongue [better]?
Answer
This is attentiveness of the heart, which is good; but reciting is an act of the tongue, and its reward is great.
