A disabled person performs tayammum and prays by gestures
Question
Because of illness Zayd has become unable to walk and move about, to the point that he cannot even lift a water jug for wudu. So he keeps some earth beside him, performs tayammum and, facing the qibla, performs the prayer. Is the prayer valid in this way or not?
Answer
When one is unable to perform wudu oneself and there is also no other person to help one perform wudu, then out of necessity tayammum is valid. When one is unable to stand, the prayer should be performed sitting. If one is unable to sit, it should be performed lying down.
