Praying lying down because of an operation

Question

Zayd's testicles hang down, because of which he suffers considerable pain. Zayd has had much treatment, but it has been of no benefit. Now Zayd intends to have an operation. However, a condition of it is that he will not be able to turn on his side and the like, nor go to the toilet. So should he make up (qada') the prayers of those days afterwards, or should he pray in that same condition?

Answer

When an operation is performed because of the hanging down of the testicles, and turning on one's side, ruku' and sajda would harm the wound, then he should perform the prayer lying down by gestures in whatever way is possible. If istinja' is also harmful, then he should pray just as he is [without it].
