Sajda al-sahw in the Friday and ‘Id prayers

Question

If in the Friday or an ‘Id prayer some wajib is forgetfully omitted, should the imam perform sajda al-sahw or not?

Answer

If the gathering is small, so that all the muqtadis will understand that the imam has performed sajda al-sahw, then sajda al-sahw should be performed. If the gathering is large, so that the muqtadis will not realise it but will think that the imam gave the salam to end the prayer, then sajda al-sahw should not be performed (Tahtawi, p. 253).
