Passing through an adjoining part of the mosque
Question
There is a mosque in which the five daily prayers are performed in congregation, as well as the prayers of the two ‘Ids and Jumu‘a. In the eastern part of this mosque there is a room, and in between there is a gap of six feet, through which worshippers go to the southern part of the mosque for wudu and purification; the entrance door of the mosque and the entrance door of the room are also in this part.
Answer
If, after the courtyard of the mosque has filled with worshippers, the remaining worshippers stand in the room and leave the said passage for those arriving, then following the imam (iqtida’) is valid in this case as well: this is a slight separation, which does not prevent iqtida’, and it has been left precisely for the needs of the prayer itself.
