The loudspeaker in prayer

Question

The matter is this: a loudspeaker has been installed in our mosque. The whole congregation agrees on giving the adhan through it, because it makes the announcement as wide as possible, and that is also the aim of the Shari‘a. The disagreement is over whether the five daily prayers may also be led through it or not. Regarding the silent (sirri)

Answer

The prayer should, as far as possible, be performed in its original and simple manner. If in the silent or audible prayer the voice does not reach the followers (muqtadis), then mukabbirs should be arranged. It is not necessary for the imam’s voice to reach [every] row: the follower, whether near the imam or far, will all receive the reward, whether they heard the voice or not.
