Praying with the face covered
Question
If a person prays in such a way that his head and most of his body are covered with a wrap, a blanket or a quilt — as people nowadays pray in the cold wrapped in quilts and the like — is this makruh or not?
Answer
Having most of the body and the head covered causes no deficiency in the prayer. However, praying with the mouth and nose covered is makruh: [ar]فيكره التلثم وتغطية الأنف والفم في الصلاة لأنه يشبه فعل المجوس[/ar] “Veiling the face (talaththum) and covering the nose and mouth in prayer is makruh, because it resembles the practice of the Magians” (“Maraqi al-Falah”, p. 205).
