The ruling on the prayer of one who knows only two suras by heart
Question
There is an elderly woman who knows only two suras by heart: “Inna a‘tayna” and “Qul huwa Allah.” She does not remember any other sura. Will her prayer be valid with this? She does not know the du‘a’ of qunut either, and in its place she also recites “Qul huwa Allah.” Is this correct? If not, kindly write down some short du‘a’.
Answer
Her prayer is valid even when she recites “Inna a‘tayna” and “Qul huwa Allah” in every prayer. In place of the qunut in witr, let her recite to the end: [ar]ٱهْدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ[/ar] “Guide us to the straight path…” (Surah al-Fatiha, 1:6).
