Is the Imam Obliged to Sweep the Mosque or Fill the Hammam with Water?

Question

What is [the ruling on] the followers (muqtadis) insisting to the imam: “Sweep” or “Fill the hammam (washing room) with water”?

Answer

If, when appointing the imam, everyone stipulated sweeping and filling the hammam with water as a condition upon the imam, then, like the imamate, this too will be the imam’s obligation. If the appointment was only for the imamate, this is not the imam’s obligation.
