Imamate of a Barber

Question

There is a barber’s son who is a hafiz of the Qur’an, about 15–16 years old. May he recite the Qur’an in tarawih or not? And is a fard prayer performed behind him permissible or not? The situation is that his father is employed in barbering.

Answer

The barber’s trade (shaving heads) is not impermissible, and it will not cause any defect in his imamate. If he knows the rulings of purity and prayer and is fit for imamate, then listening to the Qur’an behind him in tarawih is also valid. Editor’s note: provided that he does not shave the beard!
