The Imamate of an Uncircumcised Man
Question
What is the Shar‘i ruling on praying behind an imam who is not circumcised?
Answer
Circumcision (khitan) is a sunna; whoever abandons it without an excuse is one who abandons the sunna. If, despite having the ability and the means, he does not keep his body clean in ghusl and istinja’, then he should by no means be made imam; if he does keep it clean, his imamate is valid.
