Appointing a Liar as Imam and Mu’adhdhin

Question

Zayd’s lying has reached its utmost; he is a deceiver and has brought false [legal] cases against scholars and the people of Allah. Can he be kept as mu’adhdhin and appointed as imam? Are his serving as mu’adhdhin and his imamate correct on a permanent basis or not?

Answer

Appointing such a person as imam is makruh tahrimi, and appointing him as mu’adhdhin is also makruh.
