The posture of sajda for men and women
Question
I had submitted that Bihishti Zewar (“Heavenly Ornaments”) says: “At the time of sajda she should keep the fingers of the hands and the toes towards the qibla, but not stand her feet upright; rather, she should put them out to the right side” — end of quote; likewise: “When she has performed the second sajda, she should sit on her left buttock” — end of quote. For the first issue a reference is given to al-Bahr: [ar]إنها لا تنصب أصابع القدمين[/ar] “She does not stand her toes upright.
Answer
According to the Hanafis, the manner of the jalsa between the two prostrations is the same as that of the sitting of the tashahhud: for a man, to stand the right foot upright and sit on the left, and for a woman, to perform tawarruk.
