According to the Hanafis, raising the index finger is sunna

Question

Question: is pointing with the index finger in the tashahhud (al-ishara fi al-tashahhud bi-l-sabbaba) permissible according to the early [Hanafi scholars] (mutaqaddimun) or not? If the former, please write out the text of the mutaqaddimun with references to the books, pages and so on. Is there any passage in “al-Mabsut” that explicitly states the position of the mutaqaddimun? What does Imam Muhammad say in “al-Mabsut”? Please write.

Answer

According to the Hanafi imams, raising the index finger at the tashahhud is sunna (masnun), and none of the companions of the Imam [Abu Hanifa ﵀] opposes it: all agree. However, among the mashayikh of Transoxiana (Ma wara’ al-Nahr)
