How many times must one say the tasbih in ruku‘ to count as having caught the ruku‘?
Question
If a person finds the imam in the state of ruku‘, how many times must he say “Subhana Rabbiya al-‘Azim” (سبحان ربي العظيم) to be counted as having caught (mudrik) that rak‘a? If he said it once and then the imam stood up, will he have caught that rak‘a or not?
Answer
In this case too he has caught the ruku‘ (mudrik al-ruku‘). Even if he did not say [the tasbih] even once, but merely reached the ruku‘ before the imam raised his head from it, he has still caught the ruku‘.
