A mosque deviating 35 degrees to the north
Question
We have a mosque that deviates 35 degrees to the north from the line of the equator (khatt al-istiwa'). It is written in Ma‘arif-i Madaniyya (“Medinan Insights”) that with a deviation from the Ka'ba of up to 24 degrees the prayer is valid without karaha (dislike). Therefore, in my opinion, prayer in this mosque will be valid without karaha. But another person here says that this mosque is to be counted as deviating 33 degrees and that prayer in it will be makruh.
Answer
What is apparent is that prayer in this mosque is not makruh. However, if the direction is turned slightly and made completely straight, there will be no dispute and everyone will be at ease.
