Praying in clothing through which the body is visible
Question
Terylene is a fabric through some kinds of which the whole body can be seen, while through others it cannot. What is [the ruling on] wearing it for men and women, and what is [the ruling on] praying in it? What is the ruling on all of this in women's clothing — whether it is a head covering, a sari or a kurta (a long loose shirt)?
Answer
If the limbs can be seen through this fabric and it does not cover the 'awra, then wearing it is impermissible for both men and women — unless there is a garment covering the 'awra over it or under it. If the limbs cannot be seen through it but rather it covers the 'awra, that is, it is of the thick kind, then [wearing it] is proper for both, and praying in it is also valid.
