Iqama said by the wife
Question
A husband and wife both want to pray in congregation. The question is: may the woman say the takbir (iqama) or not? Is there anything objectionable in her saying it?
Answer
A woman’s giving the adhan is makruh, and her saying the takbir (iqama) is also makruh (as in Nur al-Idah). However, the jurists have mentioned two reasons (‘illa) for this dislike: first, that a woman’s voice is also ‘awra — but this has been declared weak; the second reason is fear of fitna (temptation). In the present situation it is absent.
