Life insurance
Question
Question: The law of the government of England is that anyone who works in any factory or shop, or runs his own business, cannot work without an insurance card. Then, according to the law established by the insurance, if his finger or the like gets cut off, he receives compensation; and these insurance people call this “life insurance”. What is the ruling on taking this money?
Answer
Since getting by without insurance is difficult in business, a factory or a shop, and there is this legal restriction on it, a person will, out of compulsion, be regarded as excused (ma‘dhur) in this life insurance.
