Prophet Musa ﵇ Struck the Angel of Death and Put Out His Eye
Question
The amir of the jama‘at of Aurangabad, during a sermon, narrated a story; I would like you to confirm it: the Angel of Death came to Prophet Musa ﵇ to take [his] soul, and [Musa] struck him with a slap, and he went away. Allah the Exalted said: “Why did you not ask permission from My interlocutor (Kalim)?” I asked the amir of the jama‘at whether this was correct; he replied: “I have heard this from the mouths of trustworthy elders, so I related it” — at this I fell silent.
Answer
There is a narration in “Sahih al-Bukhari”, “Sahih Muslim” and “Sunan al-Nasa’i” that the Angel of Death came to Prophet Musa ﵇ — in human form — to take [his] soul; [Musa] struck him with a slap, which put out his eye. [The Angel] returned to Allah the Exalted and said: “You sent me to a man who does not want death.
