Investigating a Hadith Cited in the Book "Din wa Dunya"
Question
The respected Mufti Shawkat ‘Ali Fahmi, in his book “Din wa Dunya”, cited a certain passage, and this humble one, quoting it, submitted it to the dar al-ifta for a reply. The reply given was merely that this hadith is fabricated (mawdu‘) and unreliable, but for common people such an answer is not satisfactory. This humble one is repeatedly asked: if it is a hadith, why do the venerable scholars of the religion not act upon it? Please answer with rational and textual proofs and thereby oblige.
Answer
This is entirely incorrect. The books of the noble hadith are in print: “Sahih al-Bukhari”, “Sahih Muslim”, “Sunan Abi Dawud”, “Sunan al-Tirmidhi”, “Sunan al-Nasa’i”, “Sunan Ibn Majah”, al-Tahawi’s “Sharh Ma’ani al-Athar”, “Mishkat al-Masabih”, “Sunan al-Darimi”, “Sunan al-Daraqutni” and others besides — this report is not mentioned in any of these books.
