Evidence That the Disbeliever's Punishment Begins at the Moment of Death
Question
Is there evidence in the noble hadith that punishment for disbelieving peoples begins already in the state of the death agony (sakarat)?
Answer
There is a marfu‘ hadith from ‘Ubada ibn al-Samit ﵁, cited in “Mishkat al-Masabih,” p. 139: [ar]إِنَّ الْكَافِرَ إِذَا حُضِرَ بُشِّرَ بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ وَعُقُوبَتِهِ، فَلَيْسَ شَيْءٌ أَكْرَهَ إِلَيْهِ مِمَّا أَمَامَهُ، فَكَرِهَ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ وَكَرِهَ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ.
