The Two Sunnah Rak‘ahs of Fajr: Right After the Fard or After Sunrise?
Question
It is narrated from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, who related from Qays ibn ‘Amr: he said that the Prophet ﷺ saw a man performing a prayer of two rak‘ahs after the obligatory (fard) morning prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The morning prayer is [only] two rak‘ahs.” The man replied: “Indeed, I had not prayed the two sunnah rak‘ahs; these are precisely those first two sunnah rak‘ahs.” He performed them, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then remained silent [without objecting].
