Reverence for Letters Containing the Blessed Name of the Prophet ﷺ
Question
You gave answers to several of my questions dated 24.3.[13]91 AH, to the effect that such newspapers, magazines and letters on which, in Urdu or in any language, are written the names of Allah, His Beloved Muhammad ﷺ, the noble Companions ﵃, and the like — if they fall on the ground or are given to a waste-paper dealer, dishonouring occurs; and that reverence should be shown to the Urdu translation of Qur’anic verses just as to the verses themselves, and such things should be left in water with something weighted…
Answer
There is no doubt that, owing to the widespread use of the press and machine printing nowadays, reverence for the divine names, Qur’anic verses, and the like has not been preserved. Verses and hadith appear in newspapers and magazines, and they are found discarded in waste paper and gutters — in short, in places of disrespect.
