The Meaning of Ilhad (Deviation) Regarding the Names of Allah

Question

Question: What is the definition of ilhad (deviation) with regard to the Names of Allah? Does a mulhid (deviator) fall outside the fold of Islam?

Answer

A “mulhid” (deviator) is one who turns away from the straight path — that is, a person who abandons the straight path of the Sacred Law and of Islam and turns to some other direction. If he goes entirely beyond the bounds of Islam, then he falls outside the fold of Islam.
