Rice, Betel and Areca Nuts for the Boy When Changing Clothes at the Engagement

Question

At the engagement, when the boy is dressed in clothes, the women call him into the house and take him, and with a lamp, rice, a betel leaf, grass, an areca nut and the like they ritually touch the boy (?); all the women take part in this — both mahram and non-mahram.

Answer

This custom is contrary to the Shari‘a; it is necessary (lazim) to stop it.
