Extravagance (Israf) at a Wedding

Question

If someone has five hundred rupees and spends all of it on the wedding celebration, is this unwarranted extravagance (israf) or not?

Answer

Spending out of place falls under israf, and israf is forbidden: [ar]وَلَا تُسْرِفُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْرِفِينَ[/ar] “And do not be extravagant: truly Allah does not love the extravagant.” If, after spending all his wealth, he became needy and nothing further remained with him, then it is israf.
