No Right to Take Back What Was Given to the Wife — the Mahr and Other Things — after Divorce

Question

What is now the ruling concerning the clothes, jewellery and other expenses that Zayd gave at the marriage contract at the demand of Najma’s parents, given that Najma’s parents have now had to suffer distress and humiliation because of a mistake?

Answer

He has no right whatsoever to take back the things he has already given as ownership (tamlik), and whatever he has already spent in this connection he likewise cannot take back.
