The wife’s apostasy does not cancel the mahr
Question
A woman became an apostate (murtadda) a long time after her wedding. Now she is claiming the mahr from her husband. Will this woman receive the mahr or not?
Answer
No separation has occurred through her adopting apostasy (ridda); the previous nikah remains intact as before (according to the preferred view). She is by no means permitted to marry another man, and the woman will receive the full mahr, because after the wedding the mahr has already become confirmed (mu’akkad) by the husband’s having had intercourse with her.
