Appointing the Maternal Grandfather as Agent (Wakil) for the Nikah

Question

I, the questioner, am 23 years old. I was brought up entirely by my maternal grandfather. My mother has passed away. My father never showed me any concern. Now he wants to take me to live with him. I fear that my life there will not be a happy one: what concern will a man (my father) who could not keep my mother show for me? I, the questioner, am now an adult. May I entrust the agency (wakala) for my nikah to my maternal grandfather? By madhhab I am a Shafi‘i. I hope you will favour me with an answer.

Answer

Make your maternal grandfather your agent (wakil); he will arrange your nikah in a suitable place where your life will pass happily.
