Is Kafa‘a (Parity in Marriage) an Un-Islamic Notion?

Question

Question: (1) ‘Umar wishes to marry his son to Zayd’s daughter. ‘Umar is from a family of qadis, while Zayd’s line of descent reaches the noble Prophet ﷺ, and he is of Arab stock. (2) Zayd is a staunch Hanafi of the Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Jama‘a of the Badayuni school, and is authorized (mujaz) to take the oath of allegiance (bay‘a) in the Qadiri order.

Answer

Allah, Blessed and Exalted, said: [ar]يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا يَسْخَرْ قَوْمٌ مِّن قَوْمٍ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونُوا۟ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ[/ar] “O you who believe! Let not one people mock another people; perhaps they are better than them” (Surah al-Hujurat, 49:11).
