A Muslim’s Nikah with a Christian Woman

Question

(1) A Muslim man wishes to marry a Christian woman. Will a nikah with her be permissible? (2) The Muslim man observes the Shari‘a of Muhammad ﷺ, but his Christian wife strictly adheres to her Christian religion. Will their nikah remain intact in such a situation?

Answer

Such a nikah involves grave harm (mafsada) and danger: it will be difficult for the Muslim husband to remain firm on his Islam, the children too will absorb the mother’s influence, and other members of the family will also be affected. Therefore, do not under any circumstances make such an intention.
