The Ruling When a Bohra Girl Accepts Islam

Question

If a girl of the Dawoodi Bohras (an Ismaili Shi‘i community of India) accepts Islam, will she come out of her husband’s nikah or not?

Answer

I do not know the state of this community’s beliefs. The ruling is this: if any non-Muslim woman accepts Islam and her husband does not accept Islam, her nikah will end once three menstrual periods have passed; then an ‘idda of three menstrual periods will be wajib. After that she will be permitted another nikah.
