A Nikah Is Not Concluded by a Pledge Made with a Hand on a Pocket Copy of the Qur’an

Question

My name is Zahra Khatun; my father’s name is Nazir Muhammad Khan. I live in the village of Sahwa, Churu District. I have an elder sister, Maqsuda Banu, who, just like me, obtained an education after her divorce and is employed in Ratangarh. We two sisters were married at the same time, at the age of 14–15. We both moved to our husbands’ homes; both of us had passed the eighth and tenth grades.

Answer

If there are witnesses to the first husband’s having given a divorce, or the husband himself admits the divorce and there are witnesses to this admission, then the divorce has taken place. With the occurrence of three menstrual periods from the time of the divorce the ‘idda has ended, and you have acquired the right to another nikah.
