Rulings on Nikah: Obligation, Sunna Status and Others

Question

I wish to know, concerning the masala of the rulings of nikah, whether the ruling of nikah is absolute or whether its ruling keeps changing according to the circumstances. Kindly clarify this, shedding light in detail on all aspects of this masala.

Answer

The ruling of nikah is not the same for everyone. One who is so overcome by desire that there is a likelihood of his falling into zina without nikah, and who is able to provide the mahr and maintenance (nafaqa) — it is fard upon him to marry; if he does not marry, he will be sinful. This much is without disagreement.
