The istisqa' prayer is not performed for more than three days

Question

The rainy season usually begins on 17 June, but here more than a month has passed and there is still no trace of rain, and because of this the labour and toil undertaken for the first crop — that is, the seed and so on that is sown in the field — has not yet been sown. For this reason all the people are distressed, and meanwhile the following questions have arisen, the answers to which we request from you. (1) To seek rain, the istisqa' prayer is performed in congregation for five consecutive days.

Answer

The istisqa' prayer for more than three days is neither transmitted nor established. [ar]وَيَخْرُجُونَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مُتَابِعَاتٍ فَقَطْ؛ لِأَنَّهُ لَمْ يُنْقَلْ أَكْثَرُ مِنْهَا[/ar] “And they go out (for istisqa') for three consecutive days only, because more than that has not been transmitted” (“Majma‘ al-Anhur”).
