Taking part in the funeral (takfin) of a deceased non-Muslim

Question

(1) In our area the Muslim population is very small, because of which we have to maintain relations with Hindus. Now the matter is that when a death occurs among us, our Hindu friends go to the grave and, together with us, put earth and the like on the deceased. For this reason, if some Hindu brother dies, we too have to go with them to the cremation ground and give wood and the like. The question now is: is it permissible for us to go along with their dead or not, and if it is, then to what extent? (2)

Answer

If there is no managing without it and you are compelled by circumstances, then confine yourselves to minimal participation, keep trying to avoid whatever things you can avoid, and keep repenting and seeking forgiveness (tawba and istighfar). (2) Do not forbid them.
