Reciting salam with the bier placed in front

Question

Is it permissible in the Sharia to set down the janaza (bier) and, standing beside it, recite salam, or not?

Answer

Setting down the janaza and standing around it reciting salam is not established: it is not in the Holy Qur’an, nor in the noble hadith, nor in the books of fiqh; therefore this practice should be abandoned.
