Building a Well Is Sadaqa Jariya
Question
A Muslim, in connection with the consolidation of landholdings, wants to have a well built on his plot, and his intention and aim is purely that he himself should use it for irrigation, and that other people who have fields [there] should also irrigate [from it], because [the other] well is very far away and irrigating from it is possible only with difficulty; and also that the common people should benefit from it in every way. Will this well be counted as sadaqa jariya (ongoing charity) or not?
Answer
It is certainly sadaqa jariya; there will be reward for it.
