Ways of Isal al-Thawab, and Digging Open a Grave to See the Deceased

Question

My son died at the age of ten, which has caused great grief. What should be done on behalf of the deceased by which his ranks would be raised and he would become a store for us in the Hereafter? What is the ruling on collective Qur’an recitation for isal al-thawab? If I open the child’s grave and look at him, I will find some peace — with this idea, is it permissible for the deceased to be shown or not? Is there any harm in reciting the Noble Qur’an aloud at the deceased’s grave?

Answer

A ten-year-old child is sinless (ma‘sum); there is no sin upon him, and he has no need of isal al-thawab or of supplication for forgiveness. However, whatever reward is conveyed [to him] will become a means of raising his ranks. There is no permission to dig open the grave to see his face; doing so is haram. In patience there is a great reward.
