Visiting graves in a state of janaba
Question
What is the ruling on a person going to the graveyard or near a grave in a state of impurity, that is, in a state of janaba (major ritual impurity)? Explain and be rewarded.
Answer
One should go to visit a grave in a state of purity, because on going there reciting the Qur’an is also sunna (masnun), and reciting the Qur’an in a state of impurity is impermissible. If he will not recite the Qur’an, then going in a state of janaba is not a sin either, though it is certainly contrary to what is better (khilaf al-afdal)
