Women visiting graves

Question

Is it proper for women to go to graves or not? If there is any hadith concerning their going, kindly write it down.

Answer

Going to graves in order to weep and renew grief is prohibited. For an elderly woman to go to the graves of the righteous for blessing (baraka) and to take heed (‘ibra), while observing hijab, is proper; but for young women going is prohibited in every case, because women generally, on going there, invariably fall into reprehensible acts (munkarat)
