Funeral prayer for one who did not pray

Question

What is [the ruling on] performing the funeral prayer for someone who never prayed in his whole life, or who prayed only the Friday prayer?

Answer

The funeral prayer must certainly be performed for such a Muslim as well. Yes, if some leading figure followed by the people (muqtada) and a prominent man does not perform the funeral prayer for him so that it may serve as a lesson to those who do not pray, there is no harm in that.
